Gert Strydom - The Raven (In Answer To Edgar Allan Poe)

On a summer December I do remember br the sun like an ember, poetry on the floor br life in pieces, while my troubles increases br nothing eases the sorrow for the girl Lenore br while I read of a farmer who lived long before br while destiny had closed a door. br br In that new tomorrow, the book I did borrow br and my own sorrow was replaced by the lore br with pain in my heart, life was falling apart, br my art was shattered as the tale I did explore br out of the blue I saw a raven black as ore br with its feet red with gore. br br With a bolt of lightning that was frightening br happened something to the bird I did deplore, br with eyes green, her hair shone a bluish sheen br the loveliest girl I have seen then came to fore; br with her I would do almost anything just to score, br suddenly I did her adore. br br Her voice had a melody, life was fair and free, br it just could not be, surf crashed on the shore, br I was not fit I did deem, or it was just a dream; br nothing was as it seem, it was a fable from yore, br I was thinking I am nuts, totally mad therefore, br but nothing I wanted more.
