Cecelia Weir - Set Me Free

Cecelia Weir - Set Me Free

There is a human of spirit and of soul br A human of integrity and pride br One of great morals and of value I am told. br One of character and of integrity br Although no specific race is inside. br br Some ancestors who were slaves br Still wear their chains. br Waiting for their freedom br From the stagnated minds br Of those who claim they rescued me. br I am an American. br br All may be free to participate br But some are enslaved br By their barbed wired fate. br Some laid down their lives br For this country to be made. br I am an American. br br Some ancestors who were white br Fought in this countys revolution. br They laboured in tents br Their families without food br They had hard times yet they stood. br I am an American. br br Who confused their minds br Who entabgled their seed. br Who decides who is a race br For we are not a percentage br Nor a half breed. br I am an American. br br Some ancestors crossed he Bering Strait br Some died along the Trail Of Tears. br Burial grounds and lands were taken br Lives were sacrificed at a large rate br I was taught face my fears and never hate. br I am an American. br br I am a result of this melting pot br Of this promised land aross the sea. br Where every man is counted br In taking a stand to be free. br The place of new birth to achieve. br I am an American. br br some ancestors skin was yellow br Marked us with slitted eyes. br They grounded us to meditate br And it would be weak to comprimise. br Practice wise decisions and don't hesitate. br I am an American. br br Many others just like me br Trace their roots br Through more than one tree. br To Set Me Free and adequately succeed br Somebody need to discover my breed. br I am an Americican.
