Tony Jolley - The Armchair of Inevitability

Tony Jolley - The Armchair of Inevitability

Sometimes it used to get me like that: br Hung me up, br Wrung me out, br Seemed to stop me doing what I knew I should br For some reasonably unconscionable reason br With just about enough momentary validity br To be sufficiently attractive to me, br And send me sheering off tangentially br In search of that which shouldn't be. br Then I'd sink (not entirely unwillingly) br Into an armchair of inevitability br Clawing at me, br Clutching at me, br Sucking me slowly and steadily br Toward a comfortable, mild insanity br In which I'd be short of salvation by phone or pen, br But no longer caring much, by then.
