James Monroe Whitfield - Christmas Hymn

James Monroe Whitfield - Christmas Hymn

Hail, glorious morn! whose radiant beams, br Looked down on Christ's nativity, br For every year thy presence teems br With joy and glad festivity. br br br On Judea's plains th' angelic throng br Burst on the shepherds' awe-struck gaze, br And raised on high a new-made song br Unto their great Creator's praise. br br br The star of Bethlehem's heavenly light br Guided the wise men from the east, br Who came to lay their power and might, br Their wisdom, at the Saviour's feet. br br br Oh, may that star's resplendent light br Continue o'er the world to shine, br Till nations now in Pagan night br Shall worship at thy holy shrine. br br br Till all the people of the earth, br From north to south, from east to west, br Hear tidings of the Saviour's birth, br And bow unto his great behest. br br br Till superstition's blighting sway br Shall flee before religion's light, br As doth the glorious orb of day br Disperse the shadows of the night.
