Laura Cummings - Pulse

Laura Cummings - Pulse

I can hear it again! The heavy, throbbing, pounding that only occurs at night. I cant remember the last time I managed to go to bed and go straight to sleep before it started chasing me. It stays at the same steady beat, never getting faster or slower and yet it always stays so close, no matter how fast I run… I can never increase the distance and yet that distance never closes. br I get into bed and pull my covers up and close my eyes, and there it is, in the pitch black endless night that stretches forth like an evil presence, eager to consume everything. It pounds one, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. One, two, three, four. I can feel it beside me, but I cant see it. I turn over so I’m lying on my other side…. And it’s still right beside me. I sit up, looking down at my bed, but I only see a pillow. br I start to fear closing my eyes, maybe it can only get me when my eyes are closed. So I lie there, never moving, never sleeping. Just lying there with my eyes wide open, staring franticly looking for anything that might consume me, the moment I shut my eyes.
