Mary Nagy - I've Gone Back ~ Part 1

Mary Nagy - I've Gone Back ~ Part 1

Pulling into the driveway br I fight back the tears as they sting my eyes. br Could I really be back here? br Didn't I hear about this house br burning to the ground years ago? br br As I force my feet out of the car br I can feel the heat from the asphalt br or is it an electric pulse as I feel br my old metal rollerskates on my feet br like so long ago? br I grab hold of the car to steady myself br (it's been years since I've rollerskated) . br br I enter the garage to find my dad's car br still packed with all his belongings. br The clothes still on hangers br piled across the back seat. br Where does he go when she kicks him out? br Do they realize how much it hurts br to see his life packed into a car...again? br br Nearing the door I can hear nothing. br I wonder if they're home. br I'm frozen. br If I knock, they might answer. br I'm not sure I'm ready to face them. br Raising my fist to knock br I see my arm as I fight to stop the shaking. br I must go inside.
