Simone Inez Harriman - Burning Goddesses

Simone Inez Harriman - Burning Goddesses

On his bronzed warrior shoulders br He wore my heart and totems br Tattooed with my broken amulets br Whole as he remembered them br br I had inflamed his craving, touch and taste br Liberating the church braids and tresses br Combed roughly by the wayward winds br Tangling, twining wanton with his senses br br I bathed carefree in slipstream rivers br Wetting his parched partisan soul br Lit candles to goddesses br And gazed at the stars br With the fae I lay naked in tall silken grasses br I touched shy deer with gentle hands br Understanding their silent languages br And they stood trembling beside me as he did br br These heinous crimes I died for br Accused of worshipping a pagan god br It destroyed his black spurned heart br To burn me br Naming me the witch I was br br Many lifetimes of remorse and sorrow br He searches the earth for me br My hatred growing with resentment br As I returned to him in anguish br For many centuries past and present br br In the Himalayas he glimpsed me br Gathering flowers for the Sherpa feast br And when he called with pleading heart br With stones I shunned and scorned him br br In foreign eastern lands br I danced naked with armlets and veils br For the Baptist head I deceived him br Burdening his country with treason br And I was the queen who betrayed him br Causing great wars and mayhem br br In a forest glen forgotten br A paupers grave stirs remembrance br Where he was buried and I was burnt br With my ashen spells and essence br br Heavy heart with aching weariness br Amongst the flowers he lays his sword br Begging for a just forgiveness br Released was then our binding sadness br Healing our souls thus parted br And so it was that the gods ordained br To be freed from karmic paths of painbr br Simone Inez Harrimanbr br
