David SmithWhite - Song: The Gambler

In search of a game I left my home. br No goals or aims; content to roam. br I followed a path of unusual bent. br The cards and the women were heaven sent. br br So just let it ride on the turn of a wheel, br on the click of a gear and a prayerful appeal. br Just let it glide in the spin of a deal, br a moment transfixed, trips up time surreal. br br I built my abode at a frantic pace. br With rich design and stucci. br I'd found the code for eternal grace, br and the secret of being lucky. br If I was a soulless outsider, br I still danced upon the edge. br I laughed at yawning danger, br and scorned the coward's pledge. br br So just let it lie on the throw of a die. br A fortune risked in the blink of an eye. br Just let it lie. The wages of zen. br The gods play the odds br with the calculation of men. br br I carved out worlds of exquisite taste. br My will was staunch and plucky. br I'd found the code for eternal grace, br and the secret of being lucky. br If I was a lonely out-rider, br at the frontiers of the mind; br I only searched for pathways round: br escape I could not find. br br So just let it lie on the throw of a die. br Just let it lie. Lie fallow. br Just let it slide while the feelings inside br hang like the humours of gallow. br br So just let it fall on the toss of a ball. br Just let it fall. All follows. br Just let it fall. For a cost that is small, br we pawn our shy dreams for dollars.
