Cheryl L. DaytecYañgot - OF REGRETS OVER WASTED DAYS

Wasted days are regrets of age br When plans that stayed plans rear their head br Guilt, nostalgia, even umbrage br Disturb us for not having read br The ancient writing on the hall br Carpe diem! We must seize the day br While we are quick and time is tall br Youth’s strength leads our feet to the way br br But youth reckons eternity br There’s the morrow, vast stretch of time br To capture dreams that need to be br Caught; Youth is never out of prime br Slowly, years roll like silent tears br Unnoticed as the thief of night br Plans are postponed for the next years br Till they fly in the sky like kite br br When the skin sags, the hair turns gray br Mortality consumes the thought br Then we do an inventory br Of plans done, plans that were for naught br That’s when regret weighs our minds down br We curse lackadaisical youth br We imagine that tasks were done br These thoughts, like spilt milk, are all moot br br So while we’re young, let’s seize the day br Regret shan’t spoil the sunset’s hue br Where fulfillment is, join the fray br When sunset comes, with joy we’ll go br A lifetime unscathed by regrets br Is life well-lived, full of spirit br Exist for others; it’s the best br Tribute to life – such a rare gift.br br Cheryl L.
