Karunakaran Prasad - Modern poets, if you please

Modern poets if you please, br Stop to read this one treatise! br I've told this now a million times, br Its not a poem till it rhymes! br br You write in lines of pure emotion br Chip in facts and a little gumption; br And expect the fact that it's verbose, br Cloud the truth that its just prose! br br And once, the great poets of old, br Now writhing in their graves, were told br That modern poets after them, br Would meter forth these rhyming gems. br br Bah! its nothing more than flowery script, br A sea of emotions all equipped; br To drown the reader in confusion, br Of olden themes in different version. br br Spell-check once my soulphul mait br And take: the time, to pun! ct-uate' br And yet if rhymes evade Thy head, br Use a rhyming site instead. br br All this blank verse that you blurt, br Makes my head and eyeballs hurt. br And my soul! My tortured soul! br Has lost its meaning and its goal. br br Lord, The rotten themes you use! br Good heavens! Can't once you choose, br Themes other than love and pain br And spare a man going insane. br br The saddest words of tongue or pen br Is sob stories of dames and men; br Who in the springtime of their youth, br Hold their broken hearts to sooth. br br Write instead of scary ants! br And men who dance in fancy pants! br Write of fairies, elves and books, br And pigs and ships and hired crooks! br br For every man will once realize, br That words like 'spice' will rhyme with 'nice'; br And hearts aglow, will then unfold br Reams and reams of poems gold.
