David Harris - The Ghost

David Harris - The Ghost

The yawning creak of the door br as ivy branches tap the windowpane, br dancing shadows from the candle br caught in a draught from beneath the door. br I sit in what is reputed to be a very haunted room br waiting to see a ghost no one has ever seen. br They’ve only heard the wailing br in the middle of the night. br Therefore, I’m sitting here br my imagination wanting to play tricks br on me as darkness falls. br I’ve come to help this lost wailing spirit br that seems bound to this room br and to help release it br into the heavenly light, br also to find its secret br why it is bound to this room. br br The town clock chimes midnight. br I wait, but nothing happens. br Maybe the lost wailing spirit br has taken the night off. br A voice sounded from the gloom. br “Excuse me, are you still up? ” br I looked around br and there by the doorway br stood a tall dark figure there. br “Yes, how can I help you? ” br “Please put out the candle br as it is keeping me awake.” br “But this room is haunted br and I’m waiting to see the ghost.” br Then came, a hearty chuckle br from the dark figure. br “So they got you at as well. br Turn out the candle br and get good nights sleep. br There is no ghost here. br Who on earth told you that. br Whoever it was br just tell them Smiler told you so.” br The next morning br after one of the best sleeps, br I have ever had. br I told the proprietor who had invited me. br They laughed when I told them br that Smiler had told me so. br When they stopped laughing br they said. “Smiler is the ghost br we were telling you about.
