Samer Madbak - Poem 040, Sonnet 15: Baby

Sleep baby, sleep, now that your crib is warm br Your body swaddled in gratification br Enjoy it now, the calm before the storm, br Before you meet the face of tribulation. br br Sleep child for soon you’ll ope those tender eyes br To recreant mankind, to draining care br Your peace will fade, those dulcet lullabies br Shall modulate to keynotes of despair. br br Slumber while yet concealed from vile mishap br Unknown to pain, oh you shall wake tomorrow br And vainly nose about your mother’s pap br But only suckle at the breast of sorrow. br br Sleep now, those pinions, yet unfledged, must soon br Flutter against life’s merciless typhoon.
