Ruth Walters - Too Late

Ruth Walters - Too Late

She followed at her own pace, br not really caring br and wondered at the crowd br that was ahead. br br The coffin looked shiny, br mahogany and brass br and she laughed br a little. br br Such a small one, br yet so smart. br You wouldn't think br a body would fit! br br She drifted then, br transfixed br by the shoe shops br and the sales. br br The blue ones were fab', br a bit pricey though br and the red ones were hot, br very high heeled. br br By the time she'd finished br the procession br had gone on. br She'd missed it. br br Well they'd always said, br 'you'll be late for your funeral some day' br they were right, br she was. br br Her soul just floated heavenwards br and as she watched br the moon arose, br grinning. br br Who wants to be buried anyhow, she thought, br she never did like worms br and she certainly didn't care br for the head stone.
