On donkey's back, with child in womb, br The Virgin Mary came; br They travelled long to Bethlehem br And searched for room in vain! br br That winter's days were freezing cold, br And dark were nights untold; br With advanced pregnancy she went br With Joseph to her hold! br br The time for baby to be born br Was nearing fast with pain; br The poor Mary suffered the pangs, br As they winded each lane! br br All that they got was a stable just, br As inn was occupied; br Nevertheless, they took it up, br As that was Heaven's Will! br br And in the wee hours before morn, br Emmanuel was born! br In swaddled clothes, the baby lay br -The new-born King on hay! br br And thus the love of God for man br Took man's form upon earth; br He was God's one begotten Son br -Savior of human race! br br The boy was born as Scriptures said, br ‘A Virgin would bear child! ' br ‘And crush the serpent's head to death, br Heaven would win o'er hell! ' br br The babe had brought both joy and peace, br And hope to sinners all; br He would carry a cross to death, br But rise third day, alive! br br We thank you Christ for being born br In abject poverty; br We thank you for obeying God br For our Eternity! br br ‘Happy Birthday, Lord Jesus dear!
