Pensive Phoenix - A Mother's Lullaby

Pensive Phoenix - A Mother's Lullaby

Sing me my lullaby br that I have never heard. br Swing me in my white wash cot br And chant away my dreams. br Tell me you’re in my heart br If ever we depart. br Rock me under sun and star br Where dreams were sown before. br br I would of asked you to leave the night light on br So I could see you leave the room, but vacancy, br was the only occupant of the shadow’s gloom. br Your footsteps became the music br To the reel of imitation. br The soundtrack to hunt away these clouds. br br When the sun is nigh, br There was nought left of your goodbye. br No locket of treasured youth, br No letters, words or intentions to dispute, br Mother’s absence was not in my memories. br A ghost that was never there. br But the shadow is yours, bending over my cot, br Every syllable of those fairytales, br Every self invented tale was soon forgot, br Once the stories passed my lids, br Tucked soundly into bed, br You place your last tender kiss, br Upon my forehead, br And whisper, br softly in my ear, br Something br I could not comprehend.
