Robert Rorabeck - Tales In A Poem

Tales in a poem in a womb br Of death— br I saw you there, standing above br The goldfish and holding your br Last breathe— br Wishes given to the stolen bicycles br Sunken beneath the fields— br And other wishes that come in time— br The airplanes taking off in warm br Streaks upon the sky— br The house cats bending down br To lick the canals br Where the alligators have been br Crying br And old muses have been sending br Their curses of loud music br Towards me— br Even after the fairgrounds br Have melted away, br And my first child is bound to be br Born come tomorrow— br In the April showers of those fields.
