John F. McCullagh - Naked Girl

When Liberty lies bleeding br And the politicians laugh br Its poets who must rescue her br Or write her epitaph. br br When Liberty lay naked, scorned br Upon the cobblestones br I gave my coat to be her robe br And brought her to my home br br More dead than alive she seemed br I gave her tea to drink br She shivered at the memory br Of how low some people sink. br br “My people once were proud and free” br She shook her head in shame. br “But lately they submit like slaves br To politician’s games” br br “The State invades your privacy- br You mutely give assent. br What would Patrick Henry say br opposed to such offense? .” br br “My treasury is plundered br By thieves the Banksters sent. br As we sink deeper into debt br Our Dollar’s worth three cents.” br br “We borrow billions every day br To fight a faceless foe br Engaged in a “forever” war br As my strength erodes” br br When Liberty lies bleeding br And the politicians laugh br Its poets who must rescue her br Or write her epitaph.br br John F.
