I have this friend – he is a mason br br And he does such beautiful work. br br He is such a good friend and loves me so much br br He has made it his duty to protect me. br br So sweet of him to think of me this way br br He has built this impenetrable rock wall around me br br And I recognize so many of the stones. br br Each added to the wall at times of hurt and loss. br br That one, was when my first love broke my heart br br And that one, was when he hit me. br br That one I don’t really want to talk about, br br but I remember when he put it there. br br I have always been so thankful for my friend and this beautiful wall he has built. br br So safe, so secure, all because of my friend. br br But wait, what if I want out? br br What if I want to run free or to fly? br br This beautiful wall not only keeps you out, br br But it keeps me locked inside. br br Maybe he was not really my friend at all.
