Gert Strydom - Mere existence (in answer to Breyten Breytenbach)

With the hot sun daily appearing, br the beauty of the glittering stars at night, br the wind dancing through the leaves br it seems as if every thing is caught, br br as if existence is mere rejoicing br in which insects, birds and people are frolicking, br as if we are in a world that is only waiting br for bigger glory with each coming day br br as if our lives are not measured out br to mere existence, as if time can last eternally, br as if time itself is missing, br only is something fleeting that we experience, br br as if everything is caught in the here and now, br in that which we experience and live through, br the feelings in the heart, br the principles of loving br br but reality br is filled with heartache, br illnesses, suffering and pain br with our youth that disappears, br br there is grey coming to our hairs, br the beauty of our faces, br our bodies decay with the years br and time is measured out for every one br br until when our lives suddenly br or gradually comes to a end, br where each one of us decays br like just another wilting flower. br br [Reference: “daar is geen tyd” (“there is no time”) by Breyten Breytenbach.
