Emmanuel George Cefai - I Dreamt Wild Dreams, Dreams Without Fear

I dreamt wild dreams, dreams without fear br Where water wild and green br Upon the white jagged cliffs br Seethed in their rage and tore br Whole chunks of rocks grey raw and white. br br How high the cliffs, how giddying br They were Dover-like chalky-white and tall br Rising from the green sea, the raging sea. br br And high above the stormy petrel sailed br High, high and traveling br Full many kilometers in few lapping br How eerie its cry, how hideous br It rang over that frozen sea: br More frozen ‘twas than the green frozen sea. br br How wild the wind and uncontrolled br How high and white the waves br Here, there, to west, to east, to everywhere br The cold sweat still I feel around me creep: br And rang all hideous the hideous cry br Of the stormy petrel. br br Now ‘twas a rage, then whisper, then a sigh. br br And then the thunder rolled br Its fingers tall irregular br Sowed omen and ill in the dark sky br That cleft its lips with every thunder-peal br With ever thunder-clap br Over that tempest green. br br How high, how bleak, the stormy petrel flew br How dank the rain that fall and cold: br How more dark grew the dusk, more dark: br How high and white the waves br Here, there, to west, to east, to everywhere br The cold sweat still I feel around me creep: br And rang all hideous the hideous cry br Of the stormy petrel.
