Jack Oates - Horizon

Jack Oates - Horizon

I see the sea the sea is me and up above the sea the sky - br the sky is I - br and in between the line unseen. br The sailor’s stitch, the traveller’s twitch, br the fisher’s dish, br the broken hearted gazer’s melancholy wish. br br We three: the me the sea the I the sky; br the endless brine, br the high azure, the green allure, br the maw and caw of teals and terns. br The line discerns br no others but the brothers in our holy trinity. br br I dive. I die. br A tattered trine. br Just me, the sea; no sky. No I. br A tightened twine, br a hook, a fly. br A gift divine - I bite the lie. br A pull. A cry. br A stranded break; the sea forsakes br the I, the sky. br From death, to breath. br The line is broke - I churn, I choke. br The tendon's torn. br A yawp, a yawn. br br I am reborn. br br I see the sea the sea is me and up above the sea the sky – br the sky is I – br and in between the line unseen. br The paddlers play, the Sadhus pray; br the peddlars hawk br their nuts from huts beside the burning flesh. br br We three: the me the sea the I the sky; br the shuttered spy, br Varuna’s lye, Surya’s wings. br The rani sings of humid kings br and gods up high br stretch the string to keep abyssal monks at bay.
