GORDON BUTCHERS - The old Hastings pier

GORDON BUTCHERS - The old Hastings pier

She stood so long in silence br Neglected in disrepair, br Battered by waves and wind br Decaying in the salty air. br br Engulfed by the fierce inferno br Her battered shell ablaze, br Though the smokey haze hid her charred remains br She now stands a shadow of better days. br br We stand in the shadows of the pier br Dwarfed by her giant rusting skeletal frame, br Now only a nightly roost for starlings br As we look up in shame. br br Our pier is now just a burnt out wreck br And we look in sadness at her decay, br For Hastings needs it's pier br Is what the people say. br br Hoping that one day the pier will rise again br from it's decine br To again bless the Hastings shore, br Or be condemned to the elements br And gone forevermore.
