David Lewis Paget - Some Sad Dream

David Lewis Paget - Some Sad Dream

I once had youth br But it has gone br Somewhere the sun br Has never shone, br I seek it like br A long lost fable, br In dark lofts br When I am able. br br It must be hid br In pills and lotions, br Facial creams br And magic potions, br Once I had br Both youth and grace, br A spritely form br And fair of face. br br But then some evil br Goblin, Elf br Came by and took br Youth for itself, br I woke one day br Like Rip van Winkle, br Shoulders bowed br And skin all wrinkled. br br So now I peer br In empty jars br Inject botox br To hide my scars, br And ban all mirrors br From reflecting br What my youth br Has long been wrecked in. br br But youth it hides br In years long past br So I’ll not find br The truth at last… br That youth was never br What it seemed, br But some sad dream br A dreamer dreamed.
