Farid ud-Din Attar - Invocation

Farid ud-Din Attar - Invocation

We are busy with the luxury of things. br Their number and multiple faces bring br To us confusion we call knowledge. Say: br God created the world, pinned night to day, br Made mountains to weigh it down, seas br To wash its face, living creatures with pleas br (The ancestors of prayers) seeking a place br In this mystery that floats in endless space. br God set the earth on the back of a bull, br The bull on a fish dancing on a spool br Of silver light so fine it is like air; br That in turn rests on nothing there br But nothing that nothing can share. br All things are but masks at God's beck and call, br They are symbols that instruct us that God is all.
