The extinction of dinosaurs isn’t just marked by bad luck, there was a good deal of bad timing involved in their demise as well.

The extinction of dinosaurs isn’t just marked by bad luck, there was a good deal of bad timing involved in their demise as well.

According to Dr. Steve Brusatte, a dinosaur specialist, they could have survived the fatal asteroid strike if it had happened at another time.

Rising sea levels and increased volcanic activity had taken a toll on diversity and the food chain, rendering them weaker than usual.

In their compromised state, they just didn’t have what it took to survive the fallout.

Had it happened a few million years before or after it did, dinosaurs could have carried on through the present day.

Humans, however, probably wouldn’t have been given the chance to evolve.

It’s also uncertain if dinos would have developed more intellectual power had their existence not been cut short.

Nonetheless, said Brusatte, "It's possible. With evolution never say never. It is certainly possible that dinosaurs could have evolved intelligence."

His proclamations have been met with some criticisms.

One is that at some point another species would have out-evolved the dinosaurs and taken control over them, possibly even wiping them out.
