Hamas admits to Gaza ambush, Israel continues shelling

The night sky in central Gaza lights up... smoke billowing in the aftermath.br br Israel continues shelling the area -- a day after a 72-hour ceasefire was broken.br br Though both sides deny violating the truce, Hamas acknowledged responsibility for a deadly ambush where an Israeli army officer may have been captured.br br An act strongly condemned by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, says a spokesman:br br SOUNDBITE (English) Stephane Dujarric, spokesman for UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon:br br "Such moves call into question the credibility of Hamas' assurances to the United Nations. The secretary-general demands the immediate and unconditional release of the captured soldier."br br Sixty-three Israeli soldiers have been killed in the violence so far.br br People in southern Israel are distraught by the news of a captured soldier.br br (SOUNDBITE) (English) HARRIET, SAYING:br br "I don't know where it's going to go but it's so discouraging and so heartbreaking.
