US President Barack Obama will meet PM Narendra Modi at the White House on September 29 and 30 during which the two leaders would discuss a wide range of bilateral and strategic issues including economic growth. In 2005 Modi, who won a landslide victory in May, was denied a visa to the US under a 1998 law barring entry to foreigners who have committed "particularly severe violations of religious freedom".
