On Monday the US Supreme Court declined to hear state government appeals of federal court rulings invalidating their bans on same-sex marriage. The Supreme Court decision thus extends marriage equality to five more states, bringing the total number to 24, with six additional states likely to soon sign on to same-sex marriage.
