br br Dr. Guevara br 678-223-3900 br br In this video I explain how bad posture can cause thoracic outlet syndrome. br br What is thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS)? br TOS is a compression of the brachial plexus andor subclavian artery and vein at the junction of the neck and clavicle area. br br Thoracic outlet syndrome symptoms can include numbness and tingling in the hands, coldness of the hands, burning and sharp sensation from the neck to the arms and hands, headaches, neck pain, chest pain, and shoulder pain. br br Bad posture causes the anterior and middle scalene muscles and pectoralis minor muscles to become tight. This can compress the brachial plexus and subclavian vessels and cause symptoms. br br To treat TOS conservatively there's 4 exercises you should be doing: br br 1. Stretch the ulnar nerve by making a circle with your index finger and thumb and place it close to your eye as you lift your elbow high. br br 2. Stretch the median nerve by placing the palm of your hand against the wall with your fingers pointing down. Then look up and tilt your head away from the wall. br br 3. Stretch the radial nerve by placing the backside of your hand against the wall with your fingers pointing down. Then look up and tilt your head away from the wall. br br 4. Improve your posture by doing exercises that bring the shoulders back to release pressure from the thoracic outlet.
