Alastair Buchan - Known Unto God

Alastair Buchan - Known Unto God

Two soldiers of The Great War rest br In their dugout, shattered after br Fights they fought at God's behest. br Underground there is no laughter. br Silence fills the cow'ring earth, br Long since shells have ceased to wail br In craters under tended turf. br It's not for them to tell the tale br Of when they heard the whistles blow br And walked into the Maxim's jaws br ‘Cross land where now the corn-rows grow, br For King and Country. For a cause br That took their names and so ensured br They liveth not forevermore.
