Elizabeth Russell - Enk

You’ve seen so much of my boy br Been with him for so long br Wrapped yourself around him br When he was sad, or when he had a hurt br I couldn’t mend br br I used you too – you healed us all at one time or another br If you couldn’t, then you comforted br He loved you before he ever knew br I was his mother br He’d had you for so long br br He slept with you on his first day on earth br While I was still too tired to hold him br He was crushed when you started to show the br Weight of your years br br When he found his friends were few br You were faithful br When I had done all I could and it still br Wasn’t enough, you held him close br While he slept br br His tears and joy are etched into your fabric br His love and his fears are your thread br Whenever I touch you now br I remember how he used to carry you br Pressed close against his tiny chest br br He showed us all just how much he could love br When he offered you up as solace when we were ill br We took you to humour him br Only realising later that we felt better br From the moment you had touched our hearts br br Was it you or my son’s spirit within you? br Were we touched by his love and compassion? br I’ll never know br But you will always be a shrine to my boy br A sacred object in my eyes br More than just a blanket – his “ENK”br br Elizabeth Russellbr br
