William Cavanagh - Shape-Shifting

William Cavanagh - Shape-Shifting

Bygone, I harboured three girls in one bed. They now br harvest rumpled smiles and yield nervous babble mid br powwow, apropos… “Remember when”? There is br not a word with respect to our hush-hush as we br cackle and grin. br br We are seasoned today and what happened then is br unlikely now, except for what we have filed away br within, from the time of… “Remember when”? br One can never relive the past but for the retrieval, of br good memories. br br Periodically I am alone, I shape-shift and we are br three girls and a boy the way we were at eighteen. br So fluent so fresh so sleek… “Remember when”? br They whisper my name, I close my eyes and I br wickedly wish. br br I have enough generic with cads and rascals and br I have no remorse. And oh my, how mellow we have ripened. br Time is shifting into high gear now and one day we shall fey br toward our fast future and crash, one by one and we will… br “Remember when”.
