hailey wohlwend - The Rocking Chair

hailey wohlwend - The Rocking Chair

Small and tiny I poke my head out from underground, br I'm not a mole nor a snake that moves without a sound br No - for I am a redwood tall and proud br As a sapling we were a forest - a vast crowd br But slowly one by one my family all fell br Someday I suppose mankind will take me as well br But for now I'm alone on mountains peak br And though I have neither ear to hear nor mouth to speak br Survival in nature is not for the weak br And often times a girl would come to me br This ancient wise old redwood tree br Until alas I to am gone br With a single cone left to be my spawn br Our forest has hope br At a building dark and forlorn br I feel the girl - my friend Lisa mourn br Inside my limbs are cut off my knotholes removed br I weep bitter tree tears mankind is so shrewd br So much of me is cast aside thrown away wasted br Until whats left of me is pasted br Into my foolish new form br And from these various pieces a rocking chair is born br They polish me with varnish glossed just so br Then they ship me away to a store i now go br In the back of the store I sit gathering dust br Door closed hinges rust br After 5 years of sitting out back br I'm taken up front in a large stack br Then one day a woman came inside br Her tiny baby being given a piggyback ride br Lisa? br Yes shed grownup since I'd been cut down br She was raising a family in this little town br And somehow Lisa knew it was me br Her old friend the redwood tree br She bought me took me home br I was no longer alone br And she taught me something yes indeed br Not of mans wars anger or greed br But wise advise that I now pass on to you br So listen well people of the world all 6 billion (and 2) br For as she once said; br There are only 2 things that soften sorrow br Music... br and tomorrow br br br and guess what br my forest lives...
