David Lewis Paget - Religicide

I 'must believe' in something to be br Saved, so I've been told, br And practice all those rituals br Passed down from days of old, br Conform to thoughts conceived by men br Two thousand years ago, br The followers of Jesus, Buddha, br Krishna... So and so! br br Then once I've made my choice I must br Resist all other faiths, br And war with each heretic, spill br Their blood, malign their race, br Aver that only my belief br Will take us to the stars, br While all those other foolish folk br Head to some place like Mars. br br And all this on the words of those br Who trod the desert plains, br Who never saw an aeroplane, br Electric light or trains, br Knew nothing of the Internet br Or travel into space, br Who muttered superstitions round br The campfires of their race.
