Edgar Albert Guest - Unimportant Differences

Edgar Albert Guest - Unimportant Differences

If he is honest, kindly, true, br And glad to work from day to day; br If when his bit of toil is through br With children he will stoop to play; br If he does always what he can br To serve another's time of need, br Then I shall hail him as a man br And never ask him what's his creed. br br If he respects a woman's name br And guards her from all thoughtless jeers; br If he is glad to play life's game br And not risk all to get the cheers; br If he disdains to win by bluff br And scorns to gain by shady tricks, br I hold that he is good enough br Regardless of his politics. br br If he is glad his much to share br With them who little here possess, br If he will stand by what is fair br And not desert to claim success, br If he will leave a smile behind br As he proceeds from place to place, br He has the proper frame of mind, br And I won't stop to ask his race. br br For when at last life's battle ends br And all the troops are called on high br We shall discover many friends br That thoughtlessly we journeyed by. br And we shall learn that God above br Has judged His creatures by their deeds, br That millions there have won His love br Who spoke in different tongues and creeds.
