Edgar Albert Guest - A Patriotic Creed

Edgar Albert Guest - A Patriotic Creed

To serve my country day by day br At any humble post I may; br To honor and respect her flag, br To live the traits of which I brag; br To be American in deed br As well as in my printed creed. br br To stand for truth and honest toil, br To till my little patch of soil, br And keep in mind the debt I owe br To them who died that I might know br My country, prosperous and free, br And passed this heritage to me. br br I always must in trouble's hour br Be guided by the men in power; br For God and country I must live, br My best for God and country give; br No act of mine that men may scan br Must shame the name American.
