Edgar Albert Guest - Under The Skin Of Men

Edgar Albert Guest - Under The Skin Of Men

Did you ever sit down and talk with men br In a serious sort of a way, br On their views of life and ponder then br On all that they have to say? br If not, you should in some quiet hour; br It's a glorious thing to do: br For you'll find that back of the pomp and power br Most men have a goal in view. br br They'll tell you then that their aim is not br The clink of the yellow gold; br That not in the worldly things they've got br Would they have their stories told. br They'll say the joys that they treasure most br Are their good friends, tried and true, br And an honest name for their own to boast br And peace when the day is through. br br I've talked with men and I think I know br What's under the toughened skin. br I've seen their eyes grow bright and glow br With the fire that burns within. br And back of the gold and back of the fame br And back of the selfish strife, br In most men's breasts you'll find the flame br Of the nobler things of life.
