Joseph Skipsey - Bubble-Blowing

Joseph Skipsey - Bubble-Blowing

FROM the pipe-end off it glides, br Many hued appearing; br What, if cynic harsh derides, br Sets the boys a-staring. br In their eyes gleam its dyes, br Glow with radiance rarer br Till they cry 'how bright! Yon sky br Hath no planet fairer!' br Nay, nought else can be so fair, br Naught, sir, more entrancing; br Blow it here, blow it there— br Keep the bubble dancing! br br Sailing thro' the air it goes, br While the urchins stretching br Out their chins, upon their toes br Blow the thing bewitching: br So blows Dick, and 'ha, ha!' cries, br At the image gazing, br 'What is this salutes mine eyes? br Truly it's amazing??' br 'Eh, thy picture,' Sue rejoins; br And a-nearer glancing; br Mine, too, in the crystal shines— br Keep the bubble dancing!' br br Blow it well—Bill and Bell, br Blow in turn, and Jerry; br And in turn each discern br What yet makes them merry; br Merry, very! Scurvy loot— br Little villain, scurvy, br Shout and blow, blow and shout, br Wits a topsy-turvy; br Even so agog they go br On their hobbies prancing— br Blow and shout, shout and blow, br Keep the bubble dancing. br br 'Fiddle-faddle fum is that! br Understand me clearly— br I detest a ditty flat, br Shouting, blowing merely:' br 'Hear me out!' 'Well?' 'While they blow br Bursts the magic wonder, br Leaving little Dick and Co. br On their ways to ponder;' br 'Tut, what then?' No look oblique— br Then they seek, and chancing br To find other bubbles, seek, br Seek to keep them dancing.
