Alicia Elsbeth Stallings - Containment

Alicia Elsbeth Stallings - Containment

So long I have been carrying myself br Carefully, carefully, like a small child br With too much water in a real glass br Clasped in two hands, across a space as vast br As living rooms, while gazes watch the waves br That start to rile the little inland sea br And slap against its cliffs' transparency, br Revise and meet, double their amplitude, br Harmonizing doubt from many ifs. br Distant frowns like clouds begin to brood. br Soon there is overbrimming. Soon the child br Looks up to find a face to match the scolding, br And just as he does, the vessel he was holding br Is almost set down safely on the bookshelf.
