Little Eagle McGowan - O The Wind and The Waves That Bore You

O the wind and the waves that bore you br 'Twas the spirit of the great sea. br Magnificent skies as big as were true br As far as your foreign eyes could see br Grand land of a million and one hues br With men and beast living free br And the soul, at last, for once knew br All that a free human could be. br br So they came with their ships and scholars br Their armies, guns and long knives br Their flags and edicts, and orders br Religion, intrigue, greed and lies br Reckless, rabid, ruthless… marauders. br The shadows of death in their eyes. br With paradise at their feet, and no further br Yet everywhere...a hell of a trail behind. br br What they didn't destroy they poisoned br Seeds of evil they sowed far and wide. br If their deeds were seen on the horizon. br Darkness would persist on every side. br To the hard of heart, life's a prison br Where hope comes, to wither and die. br So far from the pleas of earth's children… br Only God hears the sound of their cries. br br So in this prison's dungeons they hide… br The spoils of their victory and power br The prisoners have no guilt or no crime br Save but being 'the people' they are. br So hear now... the words of our wise… br Listen you mighty men of the hour… br Until the last of us, wild and free rides br There can be no such thing as… an America.
