Oilibheir Alain Christie - Brother Humans

Oilibheir Alain Christie - Brother Humans

Brother Humans who live after us, br Do not have hearts hardened against us, br For, if you take pity on us poor, br God will sooner have mercy on you. br You see us tied here, five, six: br As for the flesh, that we nourished too much, br It's been long since devoured and rotten, br And we, the bones, become ashes and powder. br Of our fate let no one make fun, br But pray God that us all will absolve! br br If we call you brothers, you must not br Have scorn for it, although we were slain br By justice. Nonetheless you know br That all men do not have unruffled common sense; br Forgive us, since we have passed on, br Toward the son of the Virgin Mary, br That his grace may not run dry for us, br Saving us from infernal thunderbolts. br We are dead, let no soul harry us; br But pray God that us all will absolve! br br Rain has drained and washed us br And the sun has dried and blackened us: br Magpies and crows have carved out our eyes br And torn off our beards and eyebrows. br We never sit for a moment; br Now here, then there, as the wind changes, br Tosses us around to its pleasure, without cease, br More pecked out by birds than thimbles. br Therefore, do not be of our brotherhood; br But pray God that us all will absolve! br br Prince Jesus, who masters us all, br Prevent Hell from having lordship over us: br With him, we have nothing to do nor trade. br Men, here is no place for mockery; br But pray God that us all will absolve! br br br Rendered into modern English by O.Á.C.
