Peter Russell - Mousai

Peter Russell - Mousai

The white body of my Beloved br Is a stone on which is inscribed br All dithyrhambs psalms and epics br Shaped of the winged and holy words br Whether of holy Sion or of Helicon br Inspired It is enduring marble br Carved in my heart and marshalls br Like bees to gather where it will br My errant senses visiting flowers br And all bright sources of the Divine br Nectar dropping beneath the stars br All blooms are holy and I seek br Dew everywhere that the Muse delights br In knowing that the Divine Form br Is indestructible event when Death br Scatters its shriveling petals on the bank br And the black earth absorbs its own br White marble gleams in my heart br While the quick cells decay br Neither Lethe nor Styx nor Acheron br Nor the River of Fire in the mouths of men br Ever will melt the white-flamed frost br Of my tears and the tears of my Beloved br Or the vine-purple song of our mouths br The muses are always dancing and the air br Each one of them breaths is itself br Brief Memory made divine and immortal br On marble they write in our hearts for ever br Though we sleep for ever dumb beneath marble.
