Diane Hine - Electric Eel (Sonnet)

Diane Hine - Electric Eel (Sonnet)

The goldfish died. Eric bought an eel br which mulls by day or haunts the galleon-wreck br and slips by night in scaleless dishabille br to trace lemniscates over a gravel bed. br He's called the eel Kitty - I know, it's weird! br Her eyes are small, and fogged like crystal balls br or cloudy fish-eggs. Maybe she's a seer? br Her pupils twitch whenever I caterwaul. br I'd like to dip my paw; only to touch br her dimpled skin, with sheathed claws. I ate br the goldfish. Eric's grinning, thinking - Just br you try Pagan, but I'm not dumb; the bait's br athrum. She's friendly though, platonic-eyed. br I'd like to prick her eye to see inside.
