Sylvia Plath - Cinderella

Sylvia Plath - Cinderella

The prince leans to the girl in scarlet heels, br Her green eyes slant, hair flaring in a fan br Of silver as the rondo slows; now reels br Begin on tilted violins to span br br The whole revolving tall glass palace hall br Where guests slide gliding into light like wine; br Rose candles flicker on the lilac wall br Reflecting in a million flagons' shine, br br And glided couples all in whirling trance br Follow holiday revel begun long since, br Until near twelve the strange girl all at once br Guilt-stricken halts, pales, clings to the prince br br As amid the hectic music and cocktail talk br She hears the caustic ticking of the clock.
