Boris Pasternak - Winter Night

Boris Pasternak - Winter Night

It snowed and snowed ,the whole world over, br Snow swept the world from end to end. br A candle burned on the table; br A candle burned. br br As during summer midges swarm br To beat their wings against a flame br Out in the yard the snowflakes swarmed br To beat against the window pane br br The blizzard sculptured on the glass br Designs of arrows and of whorls. br A candle burned on the table; br A candle burned. br br Distorted shadows fell br Upon the lighted ceiling: br Shadows of crossed arms,of crossed legs- br Of crossed destiny. br br Two tiny shoes fell to the floor br And thudded. br A candle on a nightstand shed wax tears br Upon a dress. br br All things vanished within br The snowy murk-white,hoary. br A candle burned on the table; br A candle burned. br br A corner draft fluttered the flame br And the white fever of temptation br Upswept its angel wings that cast br A cruciform shadow br br It snowed hard throughout the month br Of February, and almost constantly br A candle burned on the table; br A candle burned.
