Angela Wybrow - Portobello Beach

Angela Wybrow - Portobello Beach

I wander along the rippled sand, br Past the sunbathers – toned and tanned. br br As, along the sand, I slowly roam, br All of my problems are left back at home. br br I am focused upon the things I may find, br And, so, at present, I have a worry-free mind. br br I see dozens of gulls waiting to be fed, br And some jellyfish, but, sadly, they’re dead. br br I see bright green gut-weed and bladder wrack, br And a tiny wee crab lying dead on it’s back; br br I see starlings bathing in a water outlet: br Fluttering their wings, getting soaking wet. br br Curly-whirly worm casts are scattered all around, br And dark, deep holes where the worms burrowed down. br br Amber, brown, black, white and grey – br Rocks and pebbles dictate where I stray. br br Across the sands, seashells are scattered; br Some still perfect, some broken and battered. br br More and more shells, each new day brings, br Including ones shaped like angel wings. br br Come dinner time, I start making tracks, br But, one day soon, I know I’ll come back.
