Dilantha Gunawardana - Romance Is Dead

I weep for it's your demise I see br No more poetry at a lover's mercy br Roses stagnate at florists corners br Surprises a lost forgotten art for donors br Words merely pleasantries or the news br No more renaissance artists or any muse br As couples stagnate through the monotony of life br Diversity hibernates in forgotten corners in strife br Love stories can be counted from the fingers on the hand br No Sandra Bullock or Keanu Reeves on the TV news stand br No Hugh Grant mumbling through weddings or a funeral br Nor Andie Mcdowell to fill the voids of the mural br Is this the world our children will inherit br No novelty in thought nor words of merit br I would cast a spell for a romantic renaissance br For a revolution of gestures sprinkled with romance br A spontaneous poem or a note on a birthday br Her favorite colors on the walls of her special day br Dinner at an Ethiopian restaurant buffet rounds br Amidst the Rastafarian reggae sounds br Off for a jazz session to serenade my love br For her to smile and move her temple to music's trove br Artists loitering on streets with their works br Street musicians captivating the crowds in their quirks br Jugglers reveling in their delicate trade br Confectionary stands in every nook to fleetingly wade br This would be the reemergence of romance br For believers to rejuvenate from their somber trance br Now I wake up it's the same old world br At least in my dreams romance is in a kaleidoscope twirl br Waking up the beauty that's all around br For romance to blossom in each and every sound br Words will always be at the center of romance br For expression is love's true quintessencebr br Dilantha Gunawardanabr br
