William Blake - I Saw a Chapel

William Blake - I Saw a Chapel

I saw a chapel all of gold br That none did dare to enter in, br And many weeping stood without, br Weeping, mourning, worshipping. br br I saw a serpent rise between br The white pillars of the door, br And he forc'd and forc'd and forc'd, br Down the golden hinges tore. br br And along the pavement sweet, br Set with pearls and rubies bright, br All his slimy length he drew br Till upon the altar white br br Vomiting his poison out br On the bread and on the wine. br So I turn'd into a sty br And laid me down among the swine.
