Henry Lawson - The Wreck Of The `Derry Castle'

Henry Lawson - The Wreck Of The `Derry Castle'

Day of ending for beginnings! br Ocean hath another innings, br Ocean hath another score; br And the surges sing his winnings, br And the surges shout his winnings, br And the surges shriek his winnings, br All along the sullen shore. br br Sing another dirge in wailing, br For another vessel sailing br With the shadow-ships at sea; br Shadow-ships for ever sinking -- br Shadow-ships whose pumps are clinking, br And whose thirsty holds are drinking br Pledges to Eternity. br br Pray for souls of ghastly, sodden br Corpses, floating round untrodden br Cliffs, where nought but sea-drift strays; br Souls of dead men, in whose faces br Of humanity no trace is -- br Not a mark to show their races -- br Floating round for days and days. br br . . . . . br br Ocean's salty tongues are licking br Round the faces of the drowned, br And a cruel blade seems sticking br Through my heart and turning round.
