Walt Whitman - Spirit That Form'd Theis Scene

Walt Whitman - Spirit That Form'd Theis Scene

SPIRIT that form'd this scene, br These tumbled rock-piles grim and red, br These reckless heaven-ambitious peaks, br These gorges, turbulent-clear streams, this naked freshness, br These formless wild arrays, for reasons of their own, br I know thee, savage spirit--we have communed together, br Mine too such wild arrays, for reasons of their own; br Was't charged against my chants they had forgotten art? br To fuse within themselves its rules precise and delicatesse? br The lyrist's measur'd beat, the wrought-out temple's grace--column br and polish'd arch forgot? 10 br But thou that revelest here--spirit that form'd this scene, br They have remember'd thee.
